MOUNT ZION METHODIST CHURCH

SUNDAY, 6TH JULY, 2003

PREACHER: Rev. Martin Turner

ALL FOR JESUS

CELEBRATION OF THE FOUR ALLS OF METHODISM

ALL CAN BE SAVED TO THE UTTERMOST

ORDER OF SERVICE

WELCOME TO EVERYONE - Rev. Ruth Gee (Acting Superintendent, Halifax Circuit)

INTRODUCTION AND SETTING THE SCENE - Dr. John Hargreaves (Wesley Tercentenary District Co-ordinator)

HYMN 251 Hymns & Psalms - All for Jesus:

1. All for Jesus - all for Jesus,
This our song shall ever be:
For we have no hope, nor Saviour,
If we have not hope in thee.

2. All for Jesus - thou wilt give us
Strength to serve thee, hour by hour;
None can move us from thy presence,
While we trust thy love and power.

3. All for Jesus - thou hast loved us;
All for Jesus - thou hast died;
All for Jesus - thou art with us,
All for Jesus crucified.

4. All for Jesus - all for Jesus -
This the church's song must be;
Till at last, we all are gathered
One in love and one in thee.

WJ Sparrow-Simpson 1859-1952

PRAYERS AND LORD'S PRAYER

HYMN 744 Hymns & Psalms - O for a thousand tongues to sing:

I . O for a thousand tongues to sing
My great redeemer's praise,
The glories of my God and King,
The triumphs of his grace!

2. My gracious Master and my God,
Assist me to proclaim,
To spread through all the earth abroad
The honours of thy name.

3. Jesus - the name that charms our fears
That bids our sorrows cease;
'Tis music in the sinner's ears,
'Tis life, and health, and peace.

4. He breaks the power of cancelled sin
He sets the prisoner free,
His blood can make the foulest clean,
His blood availed for me.

5. He speaks; and, listening to his voice,
New life the dead receive;
The mournful, broken hearts rejoice,
The humble poor believe.

6. Hear him, ye deaf; his praise, ye dumb
Your loosened tongues employ,
Ye, blind, behold your Saviour come;
And leap, ye lame, for joy

7. See all your sins on Jesus laid:
The lamb of God was slain;
His soul was once an offering made
For every soul of man.

8. In Christ, our Head, you then shall know
Shall feel, your sins forgiven,
Anticipate your heaven below,
And own that love is heaven.

Charles Wesley 1707-88

LESSON - ISAIAH 58 vv. 1-9a - Rev. Wendy Wilby, Vicar of Halifax Parish Church

HIPPERHOLME YOUNG PEOPLE will accompany our singing of three worship songs:

Purify my heart,
Let me be as gold and precious silver
Purify my heart
Let me be as gold, pure gold
Refiner's fire,*
my heart's one desire - is to be holy,
set apart for your Lord
I choose to be holy
set apart for you my master
Ready to do your will.
Purify my heart
Let me be as gold and make me holy.
Purify my heart,
Let me be as gold, pure gold
Refiners fire (repeat as above)*
Brian Doerksen.

I am a new creation
no more in condemnation
here in the grace of God I stand.
My heart is overflowing my love just keeps on growing
here in the grace of God I stand.
And I will praise you, Lord,
yes I will praise you, lord
and I will sing of all that you have done.
A joy that knows no limit,
a lightness in my spirit
here in the grace of God I stand.
Dave Bilbrough & Dave Peacock.

Jesus take me as I am,
I can come no other way.
Take me deeper into You,
make my flesh life melt away
Make me like a precious stone.
Crystal clear and finely honed.
Life of Jesus shining through
giving glory back to You.

Dave Bryan and Roger Mayon.

LESSON - MATTHEW 5 vv. 43-48 - Rev. Lisa Quarmby, Halifax Circuit

HYMN 728 Hymns & Psalms - How can we sinners know.

I. How can we sinners know
Our sins on earth forgiven?
How can our gracious Saviour show
Our names inscribed in heaven'

2. We who in Christ believe
That he for us hath died,
We all his unknown peace receive,
And feel his blood applied.

3. His love, surpassing far
The love of all beneath
We find within our hearts, and dare
The pointless darts of death.

4. Stronger than death and hell
Thy mystic power we prove;
And, conquerors of the world, we dwell
In heaven, who dwell in love.

5. The meek and lowly heart
That in our Saviour was,
To us his Spirit doth impart,
And signs us with his cross.

6. Our nature's turned, our mind
Transformed in all its powers;
And both the witnesses are joined
The Spirit of God with ours.

7. His glory our design,
We live our God to please;
And rise with filial fear divine,
To perfect holiness.

Charles Wesley 1707-88

COLLECTION AND DEDICATION

SERMON - Rev. Martin Turner, Westminster Central Hall.

HYMN 723 Hymns & Psalms - All things are possible:

1. All things are possible to them
That can in Jesu's name believe;
Lord, I no more thy truth blaspheme.
Thy truth I lovingly receive;
I can, I do believe in thee;
All things are possible to me.

2. The most impossible of all
Is that I e'er from sin should cease;
Yet shall it be, I know it shall:
Jesus, look to thy faithfulness!
If nothing is too hard for thee,
All things are possible to me.

3. Though earth and hell the word gainsay
The word of God can never fail;
The lamb shall take my sins away,
'Tis certain, though impossible;
The thing impossible shall be
All things are possible to me.

4. All things are possible to God,
To Christ, the power of God in man,
To me, when I am all renewed,
When I in Christ am formed again,
And witness, from all sin set free,
All things are possible to me.

Charles Wesley 1707-88

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSlON

HYMN 745 Hymns & Psalms - O thou who camest from above:

I . O thou who camest from above
The pure celestial fire to impart,
Kindle a flame of sacred love
On the mean altar of my heart!

2. There let it for thy glory burn
With inextinguishable blaze,
And trembling to its source return,
In humble prayer and fervent praise.

3. Jesus, confirm my heart's desire,
To work, and speak, and think for thee
Still let me guard the holy fire,
And still stir up thy gift in me -

4. Ready for all thy perfect will,
My acts of faith and love repeat
Till death thy endless mercies seal,
And make the sacrifice complete

Charles Wesley 1707-88
